Think on Good Things

October 13, 2018

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things” Philippians 4:8, NKJV.

Sometimes our minds can be all over the place if we allow it to be. In the face of being tempted to be dissatisfied, your mind can think on what if you made different decisions in life and what could have been. In the face of not having enough income, your mind can be full of what you don’t have instead of what you do. When a challenge comes, your thoughts can be consumed with why did it have to happen?

It is our responsibility to, on purpose, think on good things. Just as you turn your head, turn the thoughts of your heart and mind toward whatever is true and noble, whatever is just or right, and pure. The battlefield is the mind and what you think on can determine whether you dwell in the past or you live in joy and hope right now. Think on God’s word, His report, and what He has said the outcome will be. You may say looking for something good happening in your life right now is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but fight to find it. The Lord never leaves us without hope and there is always something that is worthy to give God praise for.

In the midst of trial, if there is anything you are gaining from it, anything Jesus is teaching you from it and it’s working for your good, think on that. It is a new day. Pursue and choose to not dwell on what you see, but what God’s word says it will be.

Prayer: Father, help me to think on good things. Help me to learn to think on what is good, honest, true and praiseworthy to You. I refuse to be a worrying man, but I will live. Help me catch myself when my mind begins to dwell on what’s wrong and what is not like You. May Your word your always weigh in on every matter. I ask for a mind that stays on Jesus and the victory I have in him. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
