Be careful. Don’t go down those trails in your thoughts–take it captive.

January 2, 2024

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, NKJV.

Have you ever been in the joy and peace of God, and then negative thoughts that seem innocent just come out of nowhere, pursuing you give way to them in your life? Yet, you entertain them, and next thing you know, you’re down, depressed, doubting if God can do it again, and anxious about what the future holds and whether it will work out for you. It worked out for them, but with my history and my baggage, will He do it for me?

Be careful not to allow the devil to take you down those rabbit trails with your thoughts, purposed to move you from your trust in God. The year just started. Take every thought captive! God told us to do so because He knew that the battlefield is the mind, and as a man thinks, so is he. So, think on God’s word. Think on the truth that this is the year of overflow and divine rescue. Think on His promises. Stand on the track record of God. Stand on His character, and feed your thoughts with His faithfulness. It may not feel easy to do, but the Holy Spirit will help you catch yourself and provide the grace that is sufficient to keep your mind on every victory already provided in Christ.

Prayer: Father, I give you all the praise and glory. Thank you for the reminder to be vigilant about my thought life. This year will be the best year of my life. I receive an overflow of you and divine rescue. I will see you do beyond what I can ask for or imagine. You’re too good. You too faithful. I receive great joy and peace today. Help me, Holy Spirit, to catch myself and keep my thoughts where they need to be–on you and your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
