“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8, NKJV.
Sometimes our minds can be all over the place if we allow them to be, especially in the face of trials and challenges. We think about where we would be if we had more of something, what could have been, why did this happen, or what are we going to do now. This kind of thinking can cause you to be discouraged and feel defeated, absent from living right now, absent from joy.
What you choose to think about is in your hands. You decide that. Whatever is true, whatever is just or right, think on those things. Think on His word and what He says about you. Think on God’s report, and what He has said the outcome will be. Think on His power and faithfulness.
You may say that looking for something good happening in your life right now is like trying to find a needle in a haystack but fight to find it. You’ll find the Lord of all never leaves us without hope, and there is always something to be thankful for. Pursue to not think on what you see, but what God’s word says it will be.
Prayer: Father, thank You for helping me to think on good things. Help me to learn to think about what is good, honest, true, and praiseworthy to You. Help me catch myself when my mind begins to dwell on what’s wrong and what is not like You. I’m encouraged today. I choose to be a man that thinks on good things! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
