There’s Power in Fasting

January 18, 2018

So we fasted and sought [help from] our God concerning this [matter], and He heard our plea” Ezra 8:23, Amplified.

“While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul (Paul) for the work to which I have called them’.” Acts 13:2, Amplified.

Have you been uncertain on what God’s will is? Have you ever been in a place in your life where you needed direction from God? You desire the peace of God in your heart about some important decisions ahead. You pray but you still aren’t clear on what to do and you discern you need to something deeper spiritually. You need His help in a great way.

In these moments and seasons, especially in the beginning of a year, it is a great time to fast. This may not be a word that some of us as men enjoy, but it is truly one weapon that your adversary doesn’t want you to use. Fasting puts your spirit man in a position of heightened sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and to deeply hear from God. Your light will break forth as the noon day.

You will be surprised how powerful it is when you deny your flesh something, so your spirit man can receive something. There is power when you push away that plate so that you can get closer to the Father. There’s power in a man’s secret work of fasting. Whether all day or until noon. Whether no food or no meats for a time. Ask the Lord what to do. As you fast and pray, God will hear your request in secret and reward you openly.

Prayer: Father, for some reason I have a wrestling on the inside on what to do. I need to know Your will. Are you leading me to fast? Help me set myself to fast so I can deeply hear from You. Help me push away the plate by Your grace. I desire to be in your perfect will. I believe You will answer me and openly reward me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
