Set Your Affection

August 28, 2018

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” Colossians 3:2, NKJV.

Affection here means to intensively interest oneself in, with concern or obedience. It also means to be mentally disposed, more or less earnestly in one direction. It’s like traveling to your vacation spot that has your intense interest, so much so you get excited just thinking about how it will be. You then base your decisions regarding your time, your money, your planning, and your efforts all around getting to that one place.

We all have one affection. What have you set yours on? There’s nothing wrong with having things, yet they should not have your affection, your intensed focused, to where all of your life’s decisions are made to obtain them and not Christ.

Set your affection your eternal destination, your eternal vacation spot–heaven. Nothing will compare to it. All of your labor for the Lord will be worth it. His well done will be worth it. Be concerned more about your soul, than your income level. Be more interested in having a lit heart, than a lit home. Deem it a greater gain to have clean hands, than a high position in which it took doing anything to reach it. Be focused on your relationship with God and intensely interest yourself in walking with Him.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for showing me where I need to set my affection. Forgive me if I have been focused on earthly things. Help me to set my affection on things above. Help me to have an intense interest in my relationship with You. Reveal Your purpose for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
