Marrying on Potential

March 13, 2019

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the Lord” Proverbs 18:22, NKJV.

If you were buying a pair of shoes, you wouldn’t settle for a little tightness and say you’ll deal with it. You would refuse to have any struggle or discomfort in them. You wouldn’t even buy shoes on potential. No matter how good they look, no matter the brand, your primary concern is that the shoes fit well.

Just as you would search with careful consideration for what shoes would fit you, take a careful consideration for who fits your life in marriage. What woman will best help you do what God has assigned for you to do in this life? Is she your best friend? What woman are you happy with beyond what you see?

Marriage is a big decision. It is not wise to marry someone based on potential. Potential means process. It will be a process for them to get to that potential, which is a work in them only God can do. It is sobering to know there is no timetable for that. If you marry them on potential, you will have to go through their process with them. Allow God to complete the work He is doing in their lives. When they are complete and when they are fit for marriage, if she is God’s choice for you, He will add her to you.

Let the Father lead you to the woman for you. He knows you, and He knows the perfect fit for you.

Prayer: Father, thank You for speaking to me. I ask that You help me to grow in wisdom when it comes to dating and marriage. I want to marry someone complete in You. I want her to perfectly fit me. Help me not be in a rush, but to trust Your judgement and make the best decision regarding the one for me. I thank You for it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
