Like a father and a son.

March 11, 2019

“And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty” 2 Corinthians 6:18, ESV.

Sometimes, we can make our relationship with God deeper than what it really is. It is just like a relationship between a father and a son. That father is going give his son the world, yet at the same time, he is going to challenge his son, correct his son, stretch his son, teach him discipline, teach him to use his money wisely, tell him to get an education and stay out the streets. Love others, enjoy life, and at the same time, leave an inheritance for your children and save for your family.

God is our heavenly Father. He is a good Father and He treats you like His son. He will stretch you. He will correct you and teach you. He will challenge you and He will exceedingly, greatly reward you for your obedience, just as a you would your own son.

In the same manner, a son knows he can go to dad about anything. You can go to your heavenly Father about anything in your life. You can share with Him what you are afraid of, your victories and failures, your temptations, your questions, and where you need some support.

If you didn’t have a father in your life, now you do. He is your Father, you are His son. Treat Him that way. Relate to Him this way and you will realize how good He really is. You’ll realize He is there. You’ll have a desire to please Him as every son does. You’ll realize how proud He already is of you.

Prayer: I thank You God that you are my heavenly Father and You are here with me. I receive You as Father and I thank You for receiving me as Your son. Continue to chastise me and shape me into the man You’ve called me to be. Help me walk and talk with You as a son would. And if I don’t do anything, You’re already proud of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
