Less talk, more listening in prayer.

July 16, 2017

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” John 10:27, KJV.

Many times we go before God asking Him to change something in our lives. We say, “Father work out this situation in my home. Change my wife. Do this at my job. Help my kids.” We come to Him with questions also such as, “Lord, what is your will for me? Why am I going through this? What do you want me to do right now to overcome this? Should I go this way or that way?”

We do so much asking in prayer, then we leave His presence without giving time to listening to the Father. It’s like asking your boss a question about a project, but then as soon as you ask, as soon as he or she is about to open their mouth, you walk away. Even when you physically leave praying at home, you should not leave prayer in your hearts. We should always remain in an attitude of prayer. Listening in your car, at work, wherever you are. You may leave your house, yet never leave His presence.

Your challenges may be intensed, but you must specifically set yourself to listen more after you pray. Listen for the Father’s response about everything you’ve asked of Him. Many believers are experiencing victory because they are listening and following the leading of the Holy Spirit. At the same time, there are believers struggling because they are indeed praying, but simply not listening enough.

He is on your side and does have a response. He is for you and He does have an answer, yet if we move too fast, or if we don’t humble ourselves, we miss it. We miss His still small voice. We miss the Holy Spirit’s leading, which He will lead you into a direction, which will confirm what you should do and the choices you need to make.

So listen after you talk to God, and let God talk to you.

Prayer: Father I thank You for the power of prayer and how important it is to listen to You speak. Help me learn to listen more. Help me to not only ask of you, but also hear Your voice of wisdom, direction and counsel. There is always a way made by You, and I will listen and allow the Holy Spirit to lead me to it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
