Learning to be one.

November 8, 2017

“That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” John 17:21, ESV

The day my wife and I became married, we became one flesh. Everything I owned became hers, and everything she owned became mine. We decided early on that we wouldn’t take separate vacations, have separate bank accounts or even have separate friends. We understood God’s heart behind marriage is that the two come together to operate as one.

Just as marriage is about learning how to become one with your spouse, entering into a covenant relationship with God is about learning how to become one with Him and one with the Body of Christ. Jesus prayed that we may be one as He and the Father are one. Whether we like it or not, we are mutually dependent upon eachother in order to fulfill God’s divine purpose and plan. Just as no system in the human body operates alone and separate from the other systems, every member of God’s body depends on the other. Every victory God gives you, is a victory for the entire body. Every sin you fall into, impacts the entire body which is why we are expected by God to restore oneanother in love and humility. We must learn how to operate as one, how to get along and how to love and support one another in a way that pleases the LORD.

Prayer: Father God, I thank you for giving me understanding of oneness. No matter how independent and self-sufficient I may be, help me learn how to operate and depend on you and everyone in my spiritual family. Redefine “family” for me. Redefine “oneness” and “unity” for me. Renew my mind LORD and help me get along with, love and support my brothers and sisters in Christ. Unify us LORD. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
