“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.’ ” Psalm 91:2, NKJV.
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe” Proverbs 18:10, NKJV.
Trust has several meanings in the Old Testament, but it also means refuge. It is strong and steady that you can hope in and be assured of life. When I think about a refuge, it always brings about a vision of a house with a porch and I am standing under that porch protected from the rain. I can hardly see myself. I just mainly see what is covering me.
God is your strong tower and refuge. When we take refuge in Him, we are taking our very lives and putting them under the mighty covering of God. When so much is happening around you, it’s in Him that you can run to and put your trust. In Him, you have a fortress, a defense, in those times when it gets tough. When it’s hard to see your way through the storm, you can hide in God and He’ll get you through it all.
Prayer: I thank you, Father, for being my refuge. In the midst of what I face, right now I make you my refuge. You are my shelter and you are covering me. Help me to make you, not the trouble, my mighty dwelling place. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
