Don’t do it for man, do it for God.

“But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic…But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy” James 3:14-17, NKJV.

The wisdom of God is the will of God. It is not only what we need to make sound decisions, it also IS the sound decision. When faced with decisions, the question is how can we determine what He wants us to do? Are there indicators that let us know what is of God and what’s not?

When you are searching for the will of God, the Father gives us some powerful descriptions of His wisdom to help us identify it, including that it will first be pure. It will be morally and spiritually undefiled. It will be perfect. If you are doing it being driven by pleasing people, you can know the decision is not from God because it is not pure. If you are doing it because you seek the applause of men, your decision is not pure. If you marry her just because of her body, it’s not gentle or pure. With all of your decisions, from who you marry, what church you attend, what job you accept, what you do with your money, what car or house you buy, let them be pure before the Lord and made solely because you seek what pleases God.

Ask yourself these questions:
Is this decision pure?
Am I doing this for man or for God?
Am I doing this because I feel pressured?
Am I seeking to appear a certain way that I’m really not to people?
What does God’s word say about this specific decision?

If we look at every decision through the lens of God’s word, it will filter out all the bad intents and motives. As men, we want to have certain things, appear a certain way, and show that we’ve arrived. That’s what the devil wants you to do. However, that won’t deliver peace nor what you really desire in the end. Don’t do it to please people, do it to please God. You want God’s will for your life and His favor before you.

Prayer: Father, thank You for speaking to me. I believe this truth is going to change my life. Help me to digest these scriptures and apply them in my life. May all my decision be pure. Help me to seek the word to help me check my intents and motives. I will not do what I do for man, but for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
