When you feel like you’re failing as a man

March 29, 2018

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands” Psalm 138:8, NKJV.

Right now, I feel like I’m failing as a man. I have said on the inside to my wife I apologize that over the years I have not lived up to your expectations. Let’s just remain together for the kid’s sake, and once their older, we can go our separate ways. Yes, these are real feelings men have. And yes, if I counted all of my failures and gave up because of them, I would have left my family, left it all by now.

Yet, when you count how far you’ve come, when you count how close you are, the feelings of your failures don’t measure up to the truth of your successes. It affirms that truly God is doing what He told you He will do for you. You are already a great success for being His son alone, yet He will also perfect what concerns you.

Perfect means He will accomplish what concerns you. He is going to succeed at forming you into the great man He ordained you to be. He will not stop until Christ is formed in you. He will not turn His back on the work of His hands–you. Like clay in the hands of a potter, remain in His hands and He will keep working on you.

Accept your failures, but accept and rejoice over your greater successes. He’s not done until you get it. He’s not done with you until you succeed as a husband, as a father, and most of all, a man of God.

Prayer: Father, this really hits home. I may have failed, but I am not my failure. You will perfect and You will succeed at everything You are doing in me, at everything that concerns me. I ask for encouragement and that You pick me up. I declare I’m moving forward. I believe I will succeed as a man of God, husband, father, and everything else You’ve called me to. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
