Not afraid to be pruned

February 3, 2017

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit” John 15:1, NKJV.

When a tree or flower is pruned, it is being pruned for a greater purpose. It is pruned for the purpose of bearing more fruit.

This is what God does with us. There are things in our lives that are unfruitful, therefore, the Lord deals with us in those areas, not for the purpose of harm, but for the purpose to bear more of the likeness of Him in us and through us. The fruit of His Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (Galatians 5:22-23).

If you are not bearing them, God is going to prune you. He will cut away offense, unforgiveness, laziness, impatience, fornication, rebellion, selfishness, pride, unfaithfulness, and other sins that stagnant your growth. He will even allow and use circumstances to prune and get what is not producing off of you so you can bear more fruit. It may not feel good, but it is good for you. Pruning precedes growth. Pruning precedes power. Pruning precedes purpose.

Don’t be afraid of His pruning process. Your best is coming out of you. Be a man that yields and allows God to take you deeper and take you higher into the image of Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Father, it doesn’t feel good, but prune me. Make this man more like You! Work on me to bear more fruit for You. Cut away any sin and anything that is not like You. I yield and rely on You Jesus to give me the strength to grow from what I’m going through. Thank You Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
