Keep your word

July 11, 2018

“It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay” Ecclesiastes 5:5, ESV.

Heaven and earth would pass away before God lets His Word fail. This is a part of His character that if He says something, He’s going to perform it. God keeps His Word.

Do you keep yours?

If you tell someone you’re going to do something, do you do it? Can your boss trust you to carry out what you commit to? People may not say anything, but they notice when we say we’re a believer, but they can’t believe us.

As a man of your word, don’t make commitments that you aren’t sure you can keep. Yet if you give your word, you should do it and it’s honorable to do so.

Keeping your word is a small principle, but it goes a long way. Ultimately, the character of God is operating in you. People will say he keeps his word, just like the God he follows. It’s a display of greatness when people believe you when you put your word on something. Your wife and kids will say when daddy says something, he does it. Let them be excited over your word, just like we are over God’s.

Prayer: Father, I praise You today. Help me to be like You and be a man of my word. Help me to consider everything before I give my word. If I tell someone I am going to do something, I need to do it. Just like people believe Your Word, I want them to believe mine. Allow this small principle to bring You great glory and draw others to know You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
