Iron Sharpens Iron

February 14, 2017

“As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” Proverbs 27:1, NKJV.

My friend told me there were some things that he was learning from me, and in turn, there were some things that I was learning from him. He has given me some wisdom about some areas and I have given him some wisdom also. He has encouraged me and I have encouraged him. There are areas that are being fine-tuned, or sharpened, in his life as a result of our friendship.

Iron sharpens iron. However, iron is required to be struck at just the right angle to become sharp. Many men are evading, or hiding, from discussing the things we really need to be talking about. We aren’t asking the questions that really need to be asked. We aren’t telling each other the truth we really need to hear. We aren’t encouraging and praying with one another as we should. As a result, we are missing just the right angles of friendships to make each other sharp.

As a man, don’t hide from discussing the rough areas in your life. Discuss them or you will remain dull. There is someone in your life that God wants to use to sharpen you, and there is someone that God wants to use you to sharpen. You both can help one another get better and better in various areas of your lives, and you will become a more effective, more focused man.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your Word. Although You sharpen me, there are people in my life you want to use to sharpen me as well. I can’t get sharper on my own. I don’t want to be dull. I humble myself Lord. Help me to talk about the things in my life I really need to talk about so I can become a more effective man. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
