Don’t expect perfection from anyone but the Lord.

November 2, 2019

“So Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God” Mark 10:18, NKJV.

Don’t expect perfection from anyone but the Lord. I sincerely try but fall short each day. There’s only One that is infallible. There’s only One that won’t let you down.

Sometimes, we can put those closest to us or those we admire on a pedestal that only Jesus can sit in. When you sat someone high in that perfection, the fall of offense and hurt is that much greater. You expected they could do no wrong, but when they offended you, you couldn’t bear it. You set them high on a skyscraper, when they should have been set on the ground–with you.

So examine yourself. Have you cut someone out of your life because, at the root of it all, you were expecting perfection? The Message Bible says in Hebrews 11:6, “So come on, let’s leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ…”. Let us go on to perfection. We aren’t perfect, but we can walk in the perfect love found in Jesus Christ. The world will see that he’s real by the love we extend to each other. They will see that God won’t leave them when they mess up and we won’t either. No one is perfect but Him.

Prayer: Father, I praise You today. Thank You for showing me not to expect anyone to be perfect but You. Perfect Your love in me and give me the courage to walk in it. Help me to forgive and restore any relationship You tell me to. They aren’t perfect, just like me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
