“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…” Isaiah 43:18-19a, NKJV.
Regret is sorrow aroused by circumstances beyond one’s control or power to repair. What do you do when something happens, or you make a decision, and now you have to live with what you can’t change? I have my own mistakes that I would like to take back, relive, and change, but I can’t. And you can’t either.
This is the essence of regret. Yet, understand the redemptive power of a mighty God, Who says to let go of the old so you can lay hold of what’s new. Let go of mistakes so that you can lay hold of miracles. Your heavenly Father is not only good, but He is a Restorer and the Healer of all sorrow, including what you can’t change, and He gives beauty for ashes. When the Lord created you, He already knew that would happen, but He still says I will finish your story, and your end will be as I have said it would be.
Prayer: Father, I needed that. You care about what I’ve experienced. You care about the regret of my decisions and mistakes. I give them to You permanently, and when thoughts come, I will decide to give them to You again. I will not live in regret, but I will live trusting in what You have ahead and in the new things You have for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
