You are the salt of the earth!

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men” Matthew 5:13, KJV.

“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” Colossians 4:6 KJV.

Salt is and was a very important mineral in ancient times. Not only was it used for food, it was also used for ceremonial offering. It was also used as a disinfectant for certain wounds, a cleansing agent and a preservative. There are also many places in the Bible where salt is mentioned, so its’ significance cannot be denied.

Jesus says we must be the salt of the earth. In other words, we must be the example, being unique in our flavor and usefulness. Just as is mentioned in (Colossians 4:6), even every conversation we have is seasoned with salt–laced with His grace. The source of the flavor of our salt is Jesus, and having the Spirit of Jesus inside of us (1 John 4:4) is our strength and the exact thing that makes us unique. This is why we must not live with fear or conform to the world (Romans 12:2). Let your character and your voice be unchanging. Be unflinching in your quest to build His kingdom and to glorify Him.

Know today that you are the salt of this earth, and that wherever you go, you take Jesus with you. There are so many lives waiting to be flavored and radically changed by His Grace through you, His servant. If you come to accept and believe this, your light will burn with the brightest fire!

Prayer: Father, in Jesus’ name I pray that I will be so fully immersed in Your Spirit that people may hear Your voice through me. As I stand ready to do Your will, I pray that You scatter me like a million grains of salt all over the lives You wish to touch and change. Lord, I place myself humbly at Your feet. May every single word in every conversation be laced with Your Grace as I bind my mind to yours, Jesus. All this we pray in the holy name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
