“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen,” 1 Peter 3:18, NKJV.
I remember talking to God about my pursuit of growth and whether anything was hindering me. He began to show me there was some pride in my heart. He told me, you don’t know a lot because you think you know everything. Pride was hindering the pace of my growth.
We hinder ourselves when we think of ourselves as higher in any area than we ought to be. We then won’t go higher, won’t study and pray more, won’t perfect our gifts, and won’t seek Him more because we think we already have all that we need. We won’t say it, but our actions say we’ve arrived when the fruit in our lives shows we’re still at the airport.
Jesus continually grew (see Luke 2:52). We must continue to grow also. Start your day humbly realizing you need more understanding, wisdom and knowledge from God each day. Invest in the growth of your gifts, and educate yourself in what you’ve been called to do daily. Ask God to examine your heart and tell you the truth about yourself, and humbly receive it. Sometimes, the truth in love is exactly what we need.
Every day, God desires that you get better and better.
Prayer: Father, reveal to me any areas where I think I have arrived. I don’t want anything to hinder my growth in you. I humble myself to seek you and grow in Christ, as well as my gifts and calling. As I do, let your grace abound in my life. Help me continue to press forward in what you have put in my heart to do and grow and get better and better. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
