“But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell” Matthew 5:28-29, NKJV.
Twice in the book of Matthew, Jesus addressed dealing with sin this same way, from an eternal view, an eternal perspective. Although it may be challenging. It may require your courage and grit in the midst of the very struggle of sin, but He makes it clear that a cut-off decision is the wisest decision. It’s a decision with your own eternity in mind.
If Facebook is causing you to sin, cut it off. If the app is causing you to sin, cut it off. If something is taking your time and focus away from God, cut it off. It’s gotten out of control, cut it off. If she is causing you to sin, cut it off. If it has become an idol in your life and has turned your heart from the Lord, cut it off. If it costs something, then so be it. It’s better to lose it than lose your soul.
These hard decisions may seem drastic to someone else, but no one else knows you. No one else knows what is distracting you or causing you to stumble but you and the Lord. These are times the devil’s tactics are strong attempts to get the believer bound, occupied, distracted, apathetic. Take your eternity seriously. Cut it off.
Prayer: Father, I receive this hard truth from Your word. I will not allow anything to come between my relationship with You. I love You, Jesus. With my eternity in mind, open my eyes today and show me anything I need to make a cut-off decision, and help me cut it off. I let it go now. I’d rather lose it, or lose her, than lose my soul. I ask for the courage to do whatever You tell me is necessary to do. Jesus, I love You first. Hallelujah! In Your name, I pray. Amen.
