“So David said to Nathan, ‘I have sinned against the Lord’” 2 Samuel 12:13, NKJV.
“Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” James 4:9-10, NKJV.
David had sinned and walked wickedly before the Lord, but he didn’t see it. God used the prophet Nathan to open David’s eyes to see his sin. His laughter turned to mourning, and he poured out his heart to God over it for a change in him.
Sometimes, we can find ourselves in the sin we’re in, the place that we’re in; others can point out the error of our ways, but we don’t see it. It’s good when we see it. It’s good when God opens our eyes to sin in us, or a wicked way we’ve been walking in that repeatedly causes damage, pain, unnecessary hardships, or loss, and we see. When He does this, our loving Father is saying He desires us to go any farther in His will and high calling with it in our lives. It is a weight of sin that continues to keep us off God’s course. He deals with it before we can go to the mountaintop, because it will be the same weight that is the reason for our downfall. Your gift can take you there, but it’s your character that keeps you there. Your loving Father won’t do that, so He reveals it.
If you see it, let your laughter be turned to mourning. If you need help, humble yourself and seek it. Get serious about what God reveals to lay aside from you.
Prayer: Father, You are a good God and chastise those You love. You have opened my eyes to see it. Deal with this in me. Deal with this wicked way or character in me. I step into mourning. I step into sorrow over it. I humble myself, and I am serious about a change in my ways for You and Your glory. As I mourn before You, get sin out of my life. I desire to please You, be trustworthy as You take me higher and walk upright before You. I reject any condemnation. I receive Your great mercy and grace now. You’re not done with me, and I thank You for taking me higher in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
