“That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me” John 17:21, ESV.
Just as marriage is about learning how to become one with your spouse, entering into a covenant relationship with God is about learning how to become one with Him and His people. Jesus prayed that we may be one as He and the Father are one so the world would believe. Our oneness can cause the world to experience Him and believe.
Just like in the physical body the hand feels what happens to the foot, every victory God gives you is a victory for the entire body. If you fall, it impacts the entire body. When one is down, we pick each other up. We are called to love and restore each other in love and humility. We teach and love each other out of sin. We can talk about being offended and get to the other side of them through Christ. Bear each other up, and whether you annoy me sometimes or not, I will love you. The unbeliever is watching to see that Jesus is real and the love of God is real through our oneness. A weak oneness produces a weak witness. They will say if they treat their brother and sister this way, their own Body, how can I expect them to love me, who will make mistakes as I’m just trying to find my way in God.
We must learn to operate as one, get along, and love one another in a way that pleases the Lord.
Prayer: Father, I thank you for giving me an understanding of oneness. Help me to love my spiritual family. Redefine “family” for me. Redefine “oneness” and “unity” for me. Renew my mind, Lord, and help me get along with, love, and support my brothers and sisters in Christ. Unify us, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
