“But God told Samuel, ‘Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart’” 1 Samuel 16:7, Message Bible.
When I met my wife, she was a freshman in college. She wore blue jean shorts, a tank top, and a baseball cap to the side. She was cute, but she wasn’t dressed to the nine. However, for some reason, it was just something about her. It wasn’t the outward appearance that the Lord pointed me to look at. God was pointing me to virtue. He was pointing me a woman that loved Him more than me, a quiet spirit, meekness, and the unseen qualities of the heart.
You may be believing God for a wife. Sometimes, love won’t look like what you think it should. You can have a preconceived notion of what someone will be or look like when you find love, but she may not be the one God leads you to. You may be looking for a supermodel when God points you to the woman right beside you serving at church. You may be looking for her name in lights when God points you to the woman walking by at work.
You think you know what you want until God shows you. You thought you needed a model until you meet someone you can be yourself with. Until you meet someone beautiful who fits your purpose, is wise, and can’t stop laughing while you’re with her.
Have an open heart to who God points you to. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit because there will be something about her. The Lord will show you who is wife material for you.
Prayer: Father, thank You for speaking to me. Yes, I do desire a wife–a good one. Help me not miss who You have for me. Help not to look so much on the outward appearance that I comprise the heart. You look at that, and I’ll look at it too. Keep me sensitive, Holy Spirit, to who You point out who is wife material for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
