Lay down your life for a friend

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” John 15:13, NKJV.

I gave three hours of my life away to help a brother, and now, he is not the same. Piece by piece, issue by issue, God poured through me to help him. That ministry, that counsel, that help he received from God through me could have very well have been the tipping of the scale toward trusting God that he could go on, instead of giving up and doing something horrific in his life. It was all a result from laying my life down, spending my time on someone else.

He told me this, “I appreciate you taking the time to help me Mister. Man,you know, Christians know a lot, but some don’t actually take the time to show someone they care, to help and hear what someone is really going through.” I was convicted by the Lord and felt I need to do this more.

Jesus is our example of truly helping and loving people. What did He do? He gave His time away. He left heaven where, there is no time, and spent 33 years with us. He eternally had it all, but He loved us so greatly that He stepped into time, our time, our life to help us, considering us as friends. When was the last time you laid down your own life, your busy schedule, to help someone else?

Let Jesus be your model and take the time to help someone. If we did more love, more laying down of ourselves, we would see more people rise up and come back to life. We would see more people transformed by the Father’s great love for them.

Prayer: Father, thank You this. Jesus, help me to love more. I desire for people to know Your great love for them and I ask that You use me to do that. I do have time. My life is Yours Lord. Help me to show I care by laying down my life for someone else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
