“Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on
Saul, he said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on
the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again
and be filled with the Holy Spirit’” Acts 9:17, NKJV.
Steam trains in the 1800s and 1900s carried cargo and people in several
cars one behind the other all across the country. The cargo cars were
connected together by a small device called a linchpin. Without
linchpins connecting the cargo cars to each other and to the
locomotive engine, nothing reached where it was supposed to go. It was
very easy to appreciate the train for all the cargo it brought, but no
one paid much attention to the linchpins because they were
hardly seen.
Much like the linchpin, Ananias played a small, yet critical part in
the life of the early church and the New Testament as a whole.
Without Ananias being obedient to the Holy Spirit, Paul’s conversion
experience wouldn’t be complete and all his writings would not have been accomplished. Can you imagine the lives that would’ve never been changed by Paul’s ministry if Ananias had not played his part?
God has given all of us a job to do and part to play in fulfilling His will.
The question is can we be faithful to do our part, even if it’s as small as a linchpin? Scripture teaches us not to despise humble beginnings because He takes pleasure in the work being started. Just because you may be doing something that seems small and unnoticed, doesn’t mean that what you do isn’t of the utmost importance to the Father. No job or role that is done in obedience to God is ever insignificant, and He will honor your faithful commitment and obedience in His service.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for loving me and including me in Your
divine plan. Lord, help me to understand the job You’ve given me so I
can play my part in furthering Your will on the Earth, no matter how
big or small. I praise You because You take pleasure in me doing what
You’ve called me to do. Let Your will be done in my life and I ask it
all in Jesus’ name, Amen!
